Being detained can include being made to stay in hospital for assessment or treatment against your wishes – which can be a stressful and confusing experience. You must know what happens to you when you are subject to restrictions under The Mental Health Act, what your rights are and where you can seek help.
At Stockport Advocacy, we can help!
Our Independent Mental Health Advocacy Service is free, independent and confidential. We work with patients detained under the Mental Health Act, supporting you to hear your views – either by speaking up for you or by helping you speak up for yourself!
We can help you get involved with the planning of your care and treatment and to support you to understand your rights under The Mental Health Act
We will meet with you to ensure you are involved in decisions made at meetings such as your ward rounds, tribunals and managers hearings and help you understand how to raise concerns about your experience.
Your advocate is independent and confidential, meaning they will listen to you to gain your views and wishes. Your advocate will treat you with respect while gathering information to help you make the best choices for yourself! You can end the support at any time, as you instruct us!
